Library The King County Library System ( KCLS) is one of the largest circulating libraries in the United States with more than 17 million items circulated in 2004. | Fairwood Library | The Fairwood Library (at 17009 140th S.E.) is located at the center of the Fairwood Community. Since its opening day (January 21, 1986), Fairwood Library has been one of the busiest branches in the King County Library System. It serves as a community center, providing meeting rooms, programs and general information. Proposed Expansion Plan for Fairwood Library:
A 5,000 sq. ft. expansion of the current 15,000 sq. ft. library to better serve kids and students
More books and materials
Additional computers and wireless access
Essential upkeep and maintenance of your library over the next ten years
Automated materials-handling system to speed delivery and reduce theft
Proposed start date: 2012
| What about annexation to Renton? The city of Renton, is one of the few cities of King County that is not a part of the KCLS. Apparently, Renton voters are not willing to tax themselves at a rate that would provide the superior level of service afforded by the King County Library System. Annexation to Renton, would very likely result in inferior library services, as the Renton City Library is simply not funded at nearly the same level.
